Downhill is paved county road and 4-H camp. Upstream is Thorn Creek WMA with additional rare plants associated with limestone.;Water gap with steep gravelly slopes and bedrock ledges. Forest is composed of small Hemlock (dying) which is overtopped by larger White Oak. Sugar Maple is coming up into subcanopy. Shrub layer appears browsed out and there are deer trails criss-crossing slope. Canby's mountain lover is fairly abundant, but short.
Representativeness
Plot is centered on above average concentration of Paxistema canbyi. May serve as baseline for detecting change in population and community following loss of hemlock.
